Miyoko Hikiji Nominated for Notable Veteran Honors

Miyoko Hikiji of Urbandale, Iowa has been nominated as one of Iowa’s Notable
Veterans for 2013. A display of her pictures while on duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom will open at the Camp Dodge Museum in Johnston, Iowa during its Veteran’s Day events in November, 2013 and will remain on display for twelve subsequent months.

Hikiji served with the 2133 Transportation Company during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Her forthcoming book All I Could Be: My Story as a Woman Warrior in Iraq tells of her wartime experience during her deployment with the Iowa Army National Guard. Traveling the dangerous roads driving unarmored vehicles at a time when insurgents were aware of their vulnerabilities and IEDís were becoming a way of life, All I Could Be shows how Miyoko Hikiji fought to complete the missions she was called on to undertake.

Her book, All I Could Be 9781933909585 describing the important period of change for women in the U.S. military will be published by Chronology Books, an imprint of History Publishing Company on May 24, 2013 and will be in Barnes and Noble bookstores, Books a Million bookstores and on BN.com, Amazon.com and other bookstores and internet outlets nationally.
