Donald Max Noel

Donald Max Noel

Donald Max Noel, a Nebraska native, served as an FBI Agent for over thirty years. During this period, Noel worked on numerous high profile investigations including the investigation of the Weathermen Underground, the kidnapping of Patricia Hearst, the Hijacking of a PSA Flight by Bulgarian Terrorists, the disappearance of Teamster President James Hoffa and the investigation and successful prosecution of sitting Federal District Judge Robert P. Aguilar of California.

In June of 1993, following the resumption of bombing by the individual known as the “UNABOMBER,” Noel was chosen to serve as an investigator on the UNABOM Task Force (UTF) until the spring of 1994, when he was named as the Co-Case Agent of the investigation. In the summer of 1995 Noel was named as a Special Agent Supervisor of the newly formed, Projects-Re-Investigation Squad of the UTF and in February of 1996, following the identification of Theodore J. Kaczynsky as the principle UNABOM suspect, SSA Noel was sent to Montana to lead a small group of UTF investigators. The information developed by this group of investigators was a significant part of the probable cause cited in an affidavit requesting a Search Warrant for Kaczynsky’s rural Montana cabin. On April 3, 1996 SSA Noel served the search warrant and arrested Theodore J. Kaczynsky at his cabin outside Lincoln, Montana.

In July 1998, along with four other members of the UNABOM task Force Noel received The Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service from United States Attorney General Janet Reno.

Noel retired from the F.B.I. in February 1999. He currently serves as a Special Consultant for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, serving on their Deadly Force Review Board.
